MWOS plan new CAF-standard facility for Norton

By Sunday Mail Reporter - Having refurbished Ngoni Stadium to host their Dynamos encounter tomorrow, Norton-based MWOS are now planning to construct a CAF-approved stadium in the town.

The log leaders' ambitious proposal, if implemented, could take the country a long way at a time when clubs playing in CAF competitions and the Warriors have been playing home games in other countries.

MWOS owner Patrick Thomson has invested a minimum of US$500,000 in the development of Ngoni Stadium, increasing capacity from 1,000 to 7,000, showing the seriousness of the football club. Mashonaland West State Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo yesterday toured Ngoni Stadium, where she promised the club the Government's support in developing the stadium.

"We will help you develop your stadium as this matches President Mnangagwa's vision of infrastructural development," she continued.

MWOS chairperson Clayton Arimoso clarified that Ngoni Stadium was the property of Norton Town Council.

"The stadium remains the property of Norton Town Council, and we only agreed to renovate it for our games. We have plans to construct our world-class stadium here in Norton approved for CAF games," he stated.

Norton mayor Action Mataruse said the private-public partnership had created employment for local youths who were carrying out the renovation of the stadium. The stadium is 99 percent complete.

MWOS plans come at a time when the Government is renovating the National Sports Stadium to ensure that national teams and clubs playing international matches do so at home.

In its latest report, the Government indicated that refurbishments of the giant stadium would be completed before the end of the year. Sunday Mail
