Police Officers Remanded in Custody After Viral Bribery Video

By Elroi Ngara, ZBC - TWO police officers, who were reportedly filmed on video receiving a bribe in Harare, have been remanded in custody until this Wednesday's bail application hearing.
The two Rudo Chirengwendure aged 28 and Nyasha Mupandira (34) appeared in a Harare Court this Tuesday charged with criminal abuse of office.
The State opposed the duo to be released on bail to stand trial, arguing that they face a serious offence.
They asked for the case postponement to this Wednesday to lodge bail application, noting that they want to carry out evidence from the investigating officer.
The duo did not oppose the postponement.
It is the state's argument that during Independence Day celebrations, the couple was deployed to hold in abeyance unlawful activities at the busy intersection of Nelson Mandela and Rezende Street in Harare.
The two were indicated to have been recorded on a video receiving cash and eventually freeing the woman whom they had apprehended for causing a traffic congestion.
The pair were arrested after the video emerged on social media. ZBC
